Dear Friend of MusicWelcome to another edition of 'MusicNotes' ... can you believe it’s May already? It's amazing how quickly time passes when you're having fun isn't it? Music PLAYshopsWe have had a ball sharing our music and meeting so many lovely people who are passionate about the value of music. Technically we present music workshops but we prefer to refer to them as PLAYshops, as we do as much playing both literally (instruments) and metaphorically as we do working, and we have such fun - what a great way to learn wouldn't you agree? Teacher Workshops in Perth - June 06... presented by Susie Davies-Splitter and Phil Splitter Early Childhood Workshop Primary Orff Schulwerk/Vocal workshops – 8-12 year focus What's new?New 'Musikeynote' presentation for PD days or conferences: "I'm not stressed - I always look like this - In this highly interactive and entertaining presentation, Phil puts forward the notion that although we have stress in our lives, it’s how we manage it that can make the difference between thriving or just surviving! Phil helps to uncover the myths of what stress is, why we have it and what we can do about it, in a fun and lighthearted manner that gives his audience some much needed strategies for coping in the boardroom, the classroom, the staffroom …..and beyond! ‘I’m not stressed, I always look like this!’ is a great way to begin or close a conference or PD day, one where people will walk away feeling energised, empowered, enthused, entertained…and ‘enspired’ to tackle the task of teaching with renewed vigor. For information on this and other 'Musikeynote' presentations please click here Susie's Improvisation courseAs you may know, as part of her Master's in Music Education, Susie (with a little help from Phil) recently completed her Music Improvisation course in Melbourne and a big thank you to all the participants who by now should have their own CD with the recording made at MadCat Sound in Oakleigh, Melbourne. Wow, what an experience that was for all concerned! Susie is now in the process of sorting through the reams of paperwork and video footage from the course to submit a full report to Melbourne University. New album comingFor those who have attended one of our workshops this year you will know that we have been 'trialling' some new material that will end up on our new album at this stage to be called 'Sing, Jam and Jive' and yes, you probably guessed, it will have lots of opportunities for improvisation. This is going to be an 'all ages' album so it will have material suitable from preschoolers right up to upper primary students. We will let you know when we have an arrival date but at this stage we hope to have it available during the second half of this year. Our music to the worldWe often send our songs to various submissions from all around the world and every once in a while we receive some international recognition: "Congratulations! Your song, "Dinky Di Aussie," has been chosen as the second place prize winner in the QuickLaunch Song Contest Round II. The song is well-produced, lyrical, fun, displays great musicianship - and very educational." Plus “Congratulations to The Splitters, whose tune "Everyone Sing" got the first reported spin on any radio station in the world!!” (Radio Winschoten, The Netherlands) The 10th Early Childhood Conference of Performing Arts (ECCPA)... presented by VOSA is on the weekend of 27/28 May 2006 at Genazzano College in Kew, Melbourne. Lori Custodero from the USA and Tanya Batt from New Zealand are the featured presenters. This conference is for pre-school teachers, primary school teachers, caregivers, family day car workers, therapists, parents and anyone interested in working creatively with young children (0-8yrs). A Gala Dinner is also being held on the Saturday night to celebrate 10 wonderful years. Phil will be MC on the night, and we will even be performing with our new acappela group “Life’s a Pitch’! Early bird registration are by 28 April. National Review School Music Education (NRSME) update 4.06In 2005, a National Review of School Music Education took place in Australia, commissioned by the Federal Government and set up by Dr Brendan Nelson the Australian Government Minister for Education, Science and Training. The purpose of the review was to investigate the current quality and status of music education in Australian primary and secondary schools, and to determine how both can be increased for the benefit of all students. To read more about this topic please click here. Ask Susie question and comments forumIf you would like to ask Susie about anything relating to music education, send an email to susie@welcometomusic.net and she will attempt to answer it for you. Can you help?We are looking to put together a list of associations and conferences around Australia to be able to recommend to you for:
If you subscribe to or know of a great association and/or they have a wonderful conference we’d like to know about it – please email susie@welcometomusic.net What people are saying about -Our website: "I've just finished checking out your website! It's fantastic!!! Congratulations on it. I loved that when you clicked on the images of various products, the song listings are displayed!" "Congratulations on your fourth place in the Unisong International song comp. Please keep up the good work of composition. We teachers love what you are giving us. It is so much better than what the kids are listening to on the radio" Our work in schools: "When I returned to St Georges the entire school was a buzz with your show -the students, the aides, the staff, the principal. You made a HUGE impact. Staff that had been at the school longest said that it was the most 'at the right level' and engaging show that the kids had ever had. The kids were most animated and enthusiastic telling me about it. WELL DONE to both of you.
